Privacy policy
checklk holds two kinds of personal data: your own account, and what a member reports about someone else. This page covers both, for the website and the CheckLK app.
Your account
To sign in you give us a mobile number or an email address, and a name. We use this to know who you are and to attach the reports you make to your account. Signing in by phone texts you a 6-digit code — we don't keep that code once it's used or after 5 minutes, whichever comes first.
What a report contains
A report is about someone else, not about you — that's the whole point of the registry. Depending on what's reported, it can hold:
- a phone number, or a Facebook/Instagram/TikTok/X/YouTube handle, or an email — whatever the scam contact used;
- a bank name, account holder name and account number, for a scam bank account;
- a name, ID number, mobile number, and how much is owed and how late, for a borrower who won't repay.
We only hold this because a member reported it. We don't collect it from the person it's about.
A person checks it first
A new report doesn't appear in search right away — a moderator reads it first, the same as reporting a scam explains.
We hide most of every number
Once a report is approved, anyone searching sees it hidden — something like 077 ▪▪▪▪ 21, and only the last 4 digits of a bank account. The reported person's name is shown the same way, part covered. That's enough to confirm a number you already hold. It's not enough for a stranger to collect numbers off this site. Full detail is only ever shown to the member who filed the report, and to the moderator reviewing it — see how it works.
If a report names you
You can flag a report about you that's wrong, and a moderator reads both sides.
Nothing is ever deleted
When a report is removed, it comes out of search but it isn't erased — we keep it, and why it was removed, so a decision can't quietly be undone or a claim reappear later with no history behind it.
Who else sees it
Dialog eSMS, our SMS provider, gets your mobile number when you ask for a sign-in code by text — only to send that text. We don't hand your data to anyone else, and we don't sell it. checklk carries no advertising and no tracking.
What the app stores on your phone
The CheckLK app keeps, on your device, only your sign-in token, your name and contact details, and your light/dark choice. It does not keep a copy of the registry on your phone — every screen asks the server fresh. If the app can't reach us, it can put a short technical note (app version, your phone's software version, a plain error) on your clipboard for you to send us yourself — it never sends this on its own, and it never includes what you searched or typed. The app asks for internet access only — nothing else.
Keeping it safe
Everything between your phone or browser and our server is encrypted. Passwords and sign-in codes are never stored as plain text. The hiding described above happens on our server, before anything is sent out — not just on the screen.
Asking us about your data
You can ask what we hold about your account, ask us to fix it, or ask us to close your account. Reports you filed follow the "nothing is ever deleted" rule above rather than being erased outright, since they're part of someone else's safety record too. Write to buildexalgo@gmail.com.
